Three Colours of Fantasy

Three Colours of Fantasy is the title of a series of mini-drama aired on MBC and Naver. Written, produced, and directed by different teams; they are all completely unrelated to each other. So what connects them? They're all fantasy-romance. of course!

NOTE: For some reason, the picture for Romance Full of Life refused to behave, which is why the giant gap is there.

Image result for three colours of fantasyThe first was Star of the Universe, which is a fitting title since EXO member Suho leads the cast. Not a literal sense, though, since his acting was just passable. It's about him, playing a top-star (in other words, himself) named Woo-joo, who has never fallen in love and therefore never written a popular love song. Little does he know he has a devoted, and frankly adorable, grim reaper following him around whose only memory of her life is him.
My first impression of this show was that it was a great idea, but I couldn't like any of the characters enough to actually enjoy it. Then episode two happened, which in short completely romanticised stalkers, and I thought I was going to the leave the drama disappointed. But the last episode was poignant and heart-wrenching, a fantastic kind of bittersweet I'd expect from the writer of Splish Splash Love. So overall I did like Star of the Universe, it just took too long for me to get to a point where I really enjoyed it.
Romance Full of Life came next. It was quite slow and low-key compared to Star of the Universe. Set in Noryangjin, basically famous for it's population of students studying for their various exams, this drama is about how one should love them self for who they are. So In-sung, a 'loser' juggling part time jobs and working hard to get into the police force, is dumped by his girlfriend Wang So-ra and tossed out of his room. In desperation, he takes part in a clinical trial. Naturally, it shocks him when the pill gives him super-powers.
I was mostly satisfied with the characters, but I was disappointed with how the conflict was solved in the last episode. I wanted him to make the decision to reverse the change by himself, not for it to be done for him after he reached the brink of death. What does he learn that way? I think Romance Full of Life was a good idea, but the plot wasn't well-written enough to live up to the uniqueness of the idea.

Image result for queen of the ring korean dramaQueen of the Ring is about an 'ugly' girl named Mo Nan-hee, who discovers the women of her family have a secret. A ring has been passed down from ugly woman to ugly woman over generations, and if the person she wants puts this ring on her then she will look like his ideal woman. Nan-hee is eager to test out this idea on Park Se-gun, someone she's liked for a young time, but he is obsessed with looks and is always looking for a prettier woman. Nan-hee gets more than she bargained for when she realises the face he sees when he looks at her actually belongs to her best friend.
This was the one I loved the most out of the three despite how offensive the premise was. The chemistry was phenomenal and the story had a good moral - you don't have to be pretty to be loved - even though this made very little sense to me since Kim Seul-gi is drop-dead gorgeous. If you can handle how awful Se-gun is for almost the entire drama, I suggest you watch this.
